People are not problems
I qualified as a doctor 23 years ago, and decided to specialise in mental health (also known as psychiatry) and worked for many years in NHS in-patient units and out-patient clinics.
During the same period, I was a friend and carer to a number of friends and family members who were experiencing mental ill health and using mental health services.
It was this experience of being 'on both sides of the fence' (i.e. both a provider and user of mental health care) that led me to realise the value of a supportive relationship with a mental health professional for healing and recovery.
I therefore trained as a psychotherapist, and now cherish my ability to work with clients over time, to help them realise their true potential for joy and connection with others.
